Trichogram (hair examination)

• Do not wash your hair for about 3 to 4 days before the test.
• During this time, all hair care products (conditioners, hairsprays, mousses, etc.) and medicated products should be discontinued.
• For colored hair, a min. 2 cm regrowth.
• If the patient has short hair or a shaved head, wait until the hair has grown back to at least 0.5 cm in length.

A trichogram is a study of the mechanism and cause of baldness and an assessment of the condition of the hair. The test involves microscopic evaluation of about 100 hairs taken from four or five areas of the scalp. Hair follicles and hair shafts are evaluated. Conclusions from the examination are helpful in determining the cause of alopecia (certain characteristic features for particular forms of hair loss) and, consequently, the correct choice of treatment (e.g., appropriate selection of mesotherapy ingredients, topical and general treatment). It is aimed at determining the structure of the hair and examining the regularity of its appearance.
Purpose of the examination: the result of this examination confirms or excludes the diagnosis of alopecia due to scarring, may indicate infection as a cause of hair loss, alopecia areata or other causes.
The examination is performed in patients of all ages, as well as in pregnant women.

• baldness in women,
• Male pattern baldness in cases where the diagnosis of male pattern baldness (androgenetic) is not evident,
• Diagnosis of genetically determined hair shaft damage syndromes,
• Hair loss caused by a disease process or without an established cause.
